Sailing At Quoile Yacht Club

DINGHIES

Quoile Yacht Club owns the following dinghies, which members are encouraged to book and use for their enjoyment:

  • 2 Laser Bahia’s
  • 2 Toppers
  • 2 Picos

CLUB BOATS

As well as our sturdy Red Bay work boat, our sailing is complemented by two modern Ribs — Rescue 1 and Rescue 2. The Ribs are exclusively used for safety purposes and are launched and recovered each time they are in action.

TRAINING

QYC is an approved RYA Training Centre. As well as sessions organised by our own qualified trainers, we often host a range of other training sessions for our members and visitors alike.

CLUB HOSTED EVENTS

Throughout a normal season, Quoile Yacht Club has a full calendar of sailing and social events.

QUOILE REGATTA

Each year in mid June, Strangford Lough’s racing fleet descends to QYC for a weekend of stiff competition and shoreside entertainment. A full race schedule takes place on the Saturday. Afterwards, members enjoy the hospitality for which QYC is famous. A splendid regatta tea precedes the presentation of trophies and afterwards our clubhouse and bar provides the backdrop for a lively evening.

THE GORES ISLAND RACE.

This long-standing and famous race is usually held on the Sunday following regatta. It’s a hugely popular event for our junior sailors and encompasses a full circumnavigation of Gores Island — tides permitting.

QUOILE YACHT CLUB TWO DAY EVENT

This annual event is run in mid August and involves two races on the Saturday and one on the Sunday with visitors encouraged to stay overnight and enjoy food and entertainment in the clubhouse. A hearty breakfast sets competitors for Sunday’s racing.
